Music roots don't get much stronger than this. The Buzzcocks formed in the audience of a Sex Pistols show in Manchester. The year was 1977. Also in the audience were members of New Order, Tony Wilson and Steven Patrick Morrissey - you get the picture.

The Buzzcocks' yearning, abrasive pop, with heady harmonics and intriguing sexuality, set them apart from the unobservant, incomprehensible thrash merchants. Now, the band are even bigger then they ever were, flogging themselves ruthlessly as their current tour grinds into Adelaide.

Last time The Buzzcocks were here they were booed for not playing exclusively old songs (an understandable cretinism if you've been weaned on cover bands in pubs). This time, even though their 'newer' material is just as strong, the band will only be playing oldies. Go down to the Gov, throw some plastic cups around and make 'em play 'Flat Pack Philosophy'.
