Retro Velo
A little while ago I found an old Italian bicycle for sale locally. It was a beautiful Olmo cafe racer with chrome lugs, Campagnolo gear, and gorgeous fenders for about $500. It was possibly the most beautiful bike I'd seen, there was no carbon fibre to be seen and I would have frolicked through the streets on it with the cheesiest of grins pretending I was laning it up in Amsterdam or weaving through the alleys of Turin.

At the top of my street is a gun shop, a children's party service and a church, which pretty much sums up my suburb's bizarre cultural diversity. I've lived in Prospect all my life, and while it's been many things, ‘cool' was never quite one of them.
But one day I woke up and almost overnight the very same Prospect was vaguely trendy.

Shopping for vintage is an up and down, round and round affair. Op-shops can be fusty and tend to cater for the morbidly obese. Paradoxically, those enterprising it-girls can be a little over zealous with their mark-ups. But there's a new kid in town. At Vintage Carousel, the highs are high and the lows are restricted to bending down for a good look at the shoes.
