At times, Avant Gardeners sound a lot like The Pixies. Other times they sound a lot like Joy Division. What they don't sound a lot like is another dishwater wuss band. Honestly, when did bands in this town get so goddamn wet? Did I miss a damp memo? Here's some free advice from Uncle Stan: nobody cares about your feelings, your band isn't good enough to be "subtle" and people who still listen to Art of Fighting never get laid.
Let's go out for dinner and a show! Kittyhawk and Bye Bye Mountain are playing Le Metro. This could be fun.

The Metro is where you go when you're done with indie DJ "nights". You know the ones I mean. They have sinister brand names like "Clap" and "Pump", pointless cover charges, covertly racist DJs, dodgy "drink specials", and various measures of sexual frustration, glycerin vapor and Franz Ferdinand.
What:

No Through Road tell us their new 7-inch is "made from vinyl and everything". This got us a little concerned. What would happen if their new 7-inch was indeed made from vinyl AND everything? Would the universe collapse in on itself to form a black hole? Would flowers start growing downwards underground? Either way, we are certain that Matt Banham would still be a frontman, and we'd hope that Batrider were still around to play us their explosive sounds too.

Oliver Mann is a performer. He's also a librarian and an opera singer... And a folk songwriter. His performances are a combination of all these things, morphing from classical vocalist to campfire storyteller as he tells tales of goblins invading his library. He's joined by Steering By Stars, their rise is no secret.
