Who is Max Dawn? Is is just a cool name or is it a real person? Kinda sounds like some kind of nerdy Warhammer style game doesn't it? I can't believe I just used a Warhammer reference. It makes me think of Maximum Dawn, which is an interesting juxtaposition don't you think? Dawn being generally peaceful, serene, gradual.

Max Dawn's last artist was Shota Kawahara. As Chloe called it, psychedlic landscape "trippy shit". Gathering 6 artists together in one small space means the trippy shit is coming on strong again, but this time for different reasons. 6 artists, all with their own unique aesthetic. Joanna Poulson's oil on canvas tonal silhouette's, Jo Kerlogue's (aka Nonchalant Sally) 2b cultural parodies, Rossanne Pellegrino's dreamlike surrealist photography, Eleanor Zecchin's sublime 'everyday', Naomi Oliver's dream-state video departures and lastly, Nico Petho's humourous and loaded, Lawn Chair artifice.

I can't say I listen to much techno, the closest thing I got to it was that 'Here's Johnny' hit from the 90s. Embarrassing I know. Anyway, just take one look at Sam Songailo's abstracts and you'll go on some kind of trip. Line's and directions seemingly shoot around in an organised and refined chaos as he lets the process dictate the product.

FiveThousand is a subcultural guide to Adelaide, published daily and fired by email weekly. It is compiled by an amorphous gaggle of Adelaide writers, stylists, designers and photographers who all like huddling under that big umbrella we like to call creativity. Without editorial independence FiveThousand has nothing. All editorial you read is featured because it's worth it - not because it's paid for.
