The winter months have been a two and a half out of ten at best. At every turn Murphy's law was kicking my ass - I was rained on the few days I was umbrella-less, I was thunder-stormed when I had no kite, I had ten thousand spoons when all I needed was a knife.
As the days grew darker my skin got lighter and all I could do for my tan was turn up the screen brightness on my laptop. But we know all the best things come in jars (jam, farts, love), and with all the new NASA technology 17 hours of sunlight is now a thing of the past! Previously I liked to keep the sun in my pants, but now I can keep it in a jar under my bed for my 24 hour tanning pleasure.
And if you haven't been keeping on top of the latest in apocalyptic news, not only is 2012 the year that the Mayans say giant llamas will take over the earth, but it's also the year NASA announced a giant flaming ball of death is going to come and destroy all our sources of electricity (and life as we know it). Summer is coming - buy 1000 Sun Jars and start stockpiling solar energy cos in two years there'll be none.

FiveThousand is a subcultural guide to Adelaide, published daily and fired by email weekly. It is compiled by an amorphous gaggle of Adelaide writers, stylists, designers and photographers who all like huddling under that big umbrella we like to call creativity. Without editorial independence FiveThousand has nothing. All editorial you read is featured because it's worth it - not because it's paid for.
