FiveThousand is a weekly snapshot of Adelaide's subculture - an Adelaide guide to film, music, design, books, art, goods and links for people who realise that the best things in life are often hard to find. Below you will find the latest additions to our Adelaide guide.
I have just finished interviewing Gavin McInnes at a bar on 14th Street and truth be told I am pissed as a fart. I had two tequilas beforehand to build up courage, then whiskey after it started. I couldn't work out how to catch a cab and now am at a place somewhere south of there, at 5.30pm, drinking the worst coffee I have ever tasted.
My hamburger collection includes salt and pepper shakers, a coaster set, fluffy CD case, sugar bowl and fridge magnet, so I may be a little biased about these babies. But what's not to love? Each wee, wafer-thin ingredient is hand-carved out of paper and lovingly dusted with Posca. The hard bit will be deciding which one you're licking your chops for the most.
"Nature" is sort of like the opposite of the internet. In small doses, it can be a pleasant way to pass the time while you're waiting for stuff to download. Also, studies have shown that regular exposure to nature can result in lower rates of depression, heart disease and obesity.
Some nature bits in the Adelaide metro area:
Morialta Conservation Park
That yuppie street in Norwood where you bought that pasta maker that you never use? Follow it all the way into the hills, turn left, and you wind up here.
Ordinarily, unless you are David Sedaris or a very close friend, I don't want to hear about your family memories. Hearing about your family memories makes me say lame things like "here's 30 cents, call someone who cares", even though public phones barely exist anymore, and that saying was never funny, even in the 90s.
